Redbridge Strengthens Service Offering with 8(a) Certification from the Small Business Administration (SBA)

Portland, Oregon—Redbridge, Inc. a Minority-owned, Woman-owned, Emerging Small Business (MWESB), has received 8(a) certification from the Small Business Administration (SBA) which it will hold until May 2026. Redbridge expects that its participation in the 8(a) Business Development Program will expand its ability to provide outstanding branding, marketing strategy, web design, social media and hosting solutions to federal and state and local government customers.

Approval to enter the SBA 8(a) business development program is granted only after completing a rigorous review process to ensure applicants meet the standards for entering this coveted program. Currently, only 6,681 companies hold the certification in the United States. The SBA 8(a) Business Development program will allow Redbridge to pursue sole source federal and state government projects and compete for set aside contracts open only to those with these small business certifications. In 2010, the Department of Energy and Department of Defense awarded over $57B to 8(a) certified companies.

Shannon Hulbert, CEO of Redbridge, expressed her excitement of what the designation will bring the company: “It’s super exciting! The opportunity to expand business in the federal market is huge. One, the numbers speak for themselves. Redbridge is the only 8(a) in the State of Oregon offering services in the marketing and hosting industries. And two, as a woman in the technology space, it’s particularly interesting. Collectively women hold less than 30% of the positions in tech. And taking that one step further, last year, women of color held less than 5% of those positions.” Hulbert continues, “So, this isn’t just the ability to pursue government projects, it’s an extraordinary opportunity to represent women in the field of tech. That doesn’t happen every day. And that’s exciting.”

The 8(a) Business Development program assists small, disadvantaged businesses in gaining access to government contracting. The program consists of a 4-year developmental stage, and a 5-year transition stage. Companies are subject to annual reviews and systematic evaluation from the SBA district office throughout the program. In Oregon, 42 companies have the 8(a) certification.
